BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Behavioral Health Services provides counseling
and support to emotionally disturbed children and their families, within the Tri-County area.
SERVICES OFFERED
SASS (Screening Assessment and Support Services)
SASS is a community-based program providing screening and
assessment capabilities, as well as intensive home-based
services, 24-hour crisis intervention, and respite services for
families with children or adolescents 20 years of age and
younger. These youth have severe emotional disturbances and are
at risk for psychiatric hospitalization. SASS also includes
individual, family and/or group therapy, case management and
respite care, to help maintain a child
in home, at school, or in their community and avoid psychiatric
hospitalization or other out-of-home placement.
These services can be provided to the Children and families
residing in Peoria, Tazewell or Woodford Counties. Youth
screened are Medicaid eligible, including DCFS wards and the
uninsured. Referrals are made by requesting a
pre-hospitalization screening through the statewide CARES
referral line. .
Tri-County Child and Adolescent Services
The Tri-County Child and Adolescent Program is a home-based,
intensive family therapy program which aims to prevent the
unnecessary placement of children outside of their homes.
The program is a mental health, preventive, community-based
approach to family preservation. The program serves families of
seriously, emotionally disturbed children 17 years of age and
younger, who live in Peoria, Tazewell or Woodford Counties.
Services include: assessment, diagnosis, individual, family,
and/or group therapy, crisis intervention, parent training,
support and advocacy, community outreach, consultation, and
education. Referrals may be made by schools, child welfare
agencies, DMHDD facilities, courts, hospitals, families, the
police, and other community agencies.
Outpatient Mental Health Services
Office based and/or home-based counseling services are available
to address a wide variety of family and child related problems.
Referrals are made by managed care providers, school personnel,
clergy, doctors, hospitals, former clients, family members, and
other professionals. Fees are assessed either on a sliding scale
or may be provided by Third party coverage of the clients
insurance services. Hours are flexible, including evening hours.
Family Transition Recovery
Program (FTR)
The FTR Program provides home-based counseling services to youth
and their families who are experiencing school, peer, gang,
and/or family/social problems. The program works to help youth
and their families improve personal and social functioning. All
youth are referred by community resources or self-referrals. The
average length of services for youth participating in this
program is six months.
Caregiver
Connections:
Provides consultation, advocacy and
education to child care centers in a 9 county area. This
program targets children 0-5 who may be experiencing the early
signs of behavioral health issues. Referrals to community
services are made to families in need.
Transitions:
Provides services to youth 16-17 years of age, in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties, who are transitioning to adult services from the child and adolescent service system. In addition, youth under the age of 18 who are returning to the community from a state correctional facility are provided help. Services are aimed at fostering independence skills, job readiness and retention, school success, mental health needs and any other present need.
Early Intervention:
Behavioral Health staff work with several pre-kindergarten programs in the Peoria Public Schools to provide education and consultation for staff, and direct services to young children who are demonstrating emotional or behavioral difficulties.
Early Childhood Mental Health:
Individual, family and group therapy services are provided for children 0 - 5 year sof age who reside in Peoria, Tazewll and Woodford Counties. Services are specifically tailored to meet the needs of young children, and to provide support and education for concerned parents.
Substance Abuse Services :
Individual and group work is provided to adolescents who are in the early stages of alcohol and drug abuse. Eligible youth are open to another Children's Home program, and are dually-diagnosed with substance abuse problems and a mental illness.
School-based Services :
Behavioral Health Services employs three full-time staff who provide targeted mental health services in five Peoria Public Schools facilities where significant needs have been identified.
