GROUP HOME PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The group home provides 24-hour highly structured milieu-based
services in normalized community settings. Treatment is oriented
toward an ultimate return of youth to their own homes, to foster
care, or to independent adult living. The group home serves
eight youth, ages 14 to 21 years.
CHARACTERISTICS
Generally, youth appropriate for referral are those whose
emotional disturbances, social maladjustment and/or behavioral
disorders interfere with the ability to benefit from community
living. Youth must have a testable Full-Scale IQ of 70 or above
with special consideration of IQ less than 70.
Most youth referred have a history of family, social and
environmental deprivation, including
physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
SERVICES OFFERED
Program services include: individual, group, and family
counseling; activity programming; educational programming;
medical, dental and psychiatric assessment and treatment;
liaison with community-based services such as vocational
counseling or additional psycho-therapeutic intervention; and
aftercare services.
REFERRALS
Referrals are accepted from the Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS), the Illinois State Board of Education,
the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities,
the Governor’s Youth Service Initiative, the Department of
Corrections, and other agencies. Submitted referrals will be
reviewed by the Referral Review Committee. Written notification
of decisions and any additional information needed will be sent
to the referring party. Preference is given to internal clients,
Peoria and Central regions and then other regions.
Referrals are accepted on an emergency basis. It if is
necessary to place the youth on a waiting list, regular written
or phone contact will be maintained with the referral source
regarding openings.
