AmeriCorps members will work with non-profit agencies in and around Peoria, building job experience and skills through service to the community. The program focuses on after-school programs working with disadvantaged youth, as well as education, environment, health and human services, economic opportunities, veterans, and other critical needs. AmeriCorps members engage in a year of service to support the mission of the Children’s Home and strengthen the community through volunteer work. Members receive a living allowance throughout the year and an education award upon finishing. For more information, go to AmeriCorps.gov.
Degree Type/Experience: Minimum age 17 years old, High School diploma or the equivalent (or agrees to continue attending school during and after term of service to obtain diploma/GED before using educational award earned). Ability to pass a DCFS background check, physical exam and TB test.
Bi-weekly living allowance and educational award paid upon completion of hours, part-time and 1 year commitment required.
Desired Skills: Personal experience with residential placement, foster care, adolescent mental health and/or juvenile justice systems desired. Ability to work independently and as a team member; demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
