Programs and Services

At Children’s Home we work in new ways to meet the challenges of our times with new professional skills. But as always, we work to save children from abusive situations and help them become self-sufficient adults and responsible parents themselves.

Due to the quiet, private nature of our work, we are not always visible in the communities we serve. But the 2000 children and families we help
each year know the impact we have on their lives.

Much has changed in our 140 years of service. What has not changed is our love and protection of children and our quest to give them all a childhood and future.

The Children’s Home is a precious community resource because as young lives are turned around, despair becomes hope, delinquency becomes responsible behavior, and future problems disappear.

The Children’s Home services cover three broad areas as described below:

Building Safe and Loving Families

Good Beginnings
Because young mothers need parenting skills, jobs, and education

Family Preservation and Support Services
Because families can learn new skills, gain strength, and stay together

Behavioral Health Services
Because emotionally disturbed children and their families can both be helped

Youth Development Services
Because youth and their families in crisis need intervention and support

Teaching Children with Special Needs

Kiefer School
Because to learn, special children need new confidence, professional counseling, and good behavior skills

Giving Children Live-In Care and Treatment

Residential Treatment and Group Homes
Because 24-hour care and treatment is sometimes what a child needs

Foster Care
Because home life with healthy families teaches how to live and love

Supervised Independent Living
Because the last step to productive adulthood is learning independence
